Before your data is accessible to researchers and/or the general public, you may want to define an embargo period. However it applies when you want to protect a research and a reasonable amount of time is required to work with your data sets and publish the research results. In practice, this means that if you want to access certain data sets, you may have to wait until the embargo period expires before you can access the data. However, it may be possible to negotiate an earlier release.

In ambitious, expensive and long-term projects it is important to consider this policy to protect the investment of money, samples, time and other resources. When the data is available, there is no way to physically prevent the general public from using it, writing manuscripts, and submitting it for publication.

To freeze data files you must follow the following process:

File embargo can only be set, changed or deleted before the dataset is published. Once they have been published, to embargo a file you must contact rdr-contacte@csuc.cat.

1A. Embargo a single file

1A.1. Go to the bottom of the dataset to view the files.

1A.2. Go to the file options menu by clicking on the ellipsis to the right of the file you want to seize. In the dropdown, click on "Embargo".



1B. Embargo multiple files

1B.1. Go to the bottom of the dataset to view the files.

1B.2. Mark the check boxes of the files you want to embargo.

1B.3. Go to the "Edit Files" menu and in the drop-down menu, click on "Embargo".

2. Select the final embargo date

A window will open where you can enter the information about the embargo.

2.1. Select the embargo end date (mandatory field).

2.2. Write the reason for seizing the files (optional field).

2.3. To save the changes, click on "Save Changes".







3. Display of embargoed files

In the information of the files should appear the sentence: "Will be embargoed until..."
